Have you heard of Bulletproof coffee? I hadn’t until a recent trip I took to California where it was EVERYWHERE. It is a coffee drink that consists of coffee blended with ghee, a clarified butter that originated in India, and superfoods.
Being vegan I wasn’t too keen on the ghee so I made an easy swap with everyone’s favorite, coconut oil. I also added almond butter to add a bit of protein, cacao powder which is known for jumpstarting your metabolism, maca for some mood stabilizing magic and almond milk to make it more like a latte than just black coffee. It is the perfect drink to bring with you to work in the morning as it keeps your belly feeling satisfied for longer because of the added healthy fats. Not to mention the coconut oil is great for healthy brain function. Or, if you are headed to the gym this is a perfect pre workout beverage as it has just enough oomph to help you power through your workout session!
This is my new favorite drink!
- 1 cup hot brewed coffee
- ½ cup almond milk
- 1 tsp cacao powder
- 1-2 tsp unrefined coconut oil
- 1 tsp almond butter
- 1 tsp maca powder
- Optional: 2-3 tsp pure cane sugar (or pure maple syrup)
- Optional: cinnamon (note: I highly recommend)
Add all ingredients to a blender and blend on high for about one minute until smooth and frothy! Pour into your favorite mug, sprinkle with cinnamon and enjoy!
